Lesbianism was taboo. A bastion of Conservatism, 'The Apple Isle' was dominated by an ultra-conservative Liberal National Party Coalition Government and by both 'The Church' and the so-called Moral Majority - there was however a thriving Lesbian Underground of which many Policewomen were a part.
